Happy Camper

Happy Easter everyone!!

In Lenten Season, it is a common thing in the Philippines for people to go back to their provinces and celebrate “Holy Week” (Days leading to Easter Sunday) with their families. A roadtrip to the beach is usually part of this long weekend.

Before the most-awaited long weekend, Filipinos have a lot of common practices one of which is the “Visita Iglesia” — on Holy Thursdays, You see everyone with their families flock the churches. We usually visit 7 different churches and do the stations of the cross or the Holy Rosary in each one.

On Fridays, you see people reenacting the Passion of The Christ on the main streets of the city — Volunteers actually carry a cross and Roman Soldiers whipping their backs with hundreds of people speculating. Some places in the Philippines even reach the point of crucifying these volunteers.

Saturdays are when most families hit the road to relax and escape the boiling hot weather of the city and leave all our worries behind for a weekend. I, for one, felt adventurous and realized I had too much beach the past month so we decided to do something different. My bestfriend-Katrina, my cousin, my boyfriend and his entire family drove for an hour up to the mountains of Adlaon to go on a nature trip -yup, we all went camping!

It’s amazing how an hour’s drive could make so much of a difference in scenery, in weather, and in lifestyle. The view was breathtaking – We could almost touch the clouds and for a second we almost forgot where we were. This weekend was all about mother nature and living the simple life.

This is where we set up our camp. Just look at how beautiful this place is! We set up our “accommodation” and relaxed afterwards watching the clouds taking in the mountains slowly. 20140420-091310.jpg20140420-091439.jpg

One can’t go camping without the goody bag — an endless supply of junk food! We were already planning on having an unhealthy weekend – thus, the goody bag.

Here’s the inside of my very cozy tent. Isn’t it pretty? Who says camping can’t look good? This sure would keep me warm when the fog creeps in at dawn. When the sun made its decent for the day, the moon rose up shedding light on us. With the night being pitch black, we got the chance to do some stargazing. The stars were literally like sparkling diamonds in the sky that night.

As predicted, I woke up the next day with the mist bidding me good morning. It was freezing!

Black Saturday

We had a whole day up in the mountains and planned on a lot of activities such as going hunting for monkeys, go trekking and swim at the river…Sadly, we ended up eating and sleeping all day and did nothing of the things planned. My family and two really good friends drove up for the day as well and we just ended up emptying a bottle of rum instead.

Meet Niko’s dads bestfriend, “Tisay”. This beautiful bird, spent her day with us as well. She sure was happy to be out of her cage for an entire day.

I want to thank my love for having us and showing us an incredible time. I love you! I hope everyone’s Easter was as relaxing and as happy as my weekend!
